Background: David
Mallory comes from a long and distinguished line of adventurers that dates back at least as far as WWII. Most of the Mallorys have arms and legs that are abnormally long for their height. This combined with the fact that most are excellent climbers usually gives them the nickname "Spider." This member of the Mallory clan received most of the family traits. The long limbs, and an unusually large appetite. Spider can eat massive amounts of food, and his rangy frame never seems to put on weight. His continual
running and swimming also helps with that.
Spider was pushed to Starfleet by his family; to this day believes that some family member pulled strings to get him in. He did well in athletics, weapons technology, and in tribute to some of his ancestors, studied intelligence. He managed to graduate, but was low in his class. But he managed to get a slot as a weapons analyst in Intelligence, studying weapons of non-Federation races. But he also grew bored quickly, and managed to get a shot at the Field Operative School. Finally he felt he had found his calling. When
he graduated, Starfleet Intelligence decided that his knowledge of weapons systems, combined with the languages he had learned made him a perfect operative to deal with weapons smugglers and dealers.
He
worked the weapons markets for many years, once even earning recognition from Intelligence Command, something they rarely bother to do. He had achieved the rank of Commander before his last assignment. The following data is classified: His last assignment from Intelligence was trying to learn who was selling weapons to pirate groups. He had managed to join a group of pirates. But one of the pirates was an attractive woman. He got close enough that she broke his cover. Spider believes that she figured it out when he got drunk with her one night. He barely escaped, suffering a head wound. Upon his return to Headquarters for debriefing, he got into an argument
with an admiral. When the admiral accused him of incompetence, Spider lost his temper and broke the admiral's nose, then the took on the admiral's security escort. After a protracted fight, they took him down. Spider waived the court-martial as a formality, admitting what he had done. He was looking at a dishonorable discharge. But Cesare Machiavelli knew of his work, and
thought it a waste of talent. He asked Spider if he would be willing to take a security position on one of the ships in the Delta Quadrant. He would have to accept a reduction in rank. Spider grudgingly agreed.

Psychological
Profile: Spider is usually a fun-loving, upbeat sort of guy. He loves to tell jokes and funny stories, play practical jokes, play games like volleyball and the like. He does not drink much, which is unusual for an Australian. When he does, he sometimes gets a little morose. Also, he likes to take risks, and is a sucker for a pretty face. Particularly blondes. He is aware of this, and admits it, but can't help himself. He denies there is any relationship between his penchant for blondes and the fact that his mother was blonde. He has a scar above his right eyebrow he refuses to have surgically repaired. When asked, he says it reminds him of a mistake he made, and doesn't want to make again. He does not seem to mind being the oldest ensign in Starfleet. Counsellor's Note: Spider
may seem a discipline problem, because he makes frequent wise-cracks. He also flirts a lot with women, no matter their rank.
