Background:

It is believed that the Starfleet officer known as Alexander Niles Barrington was found on a tradeworld somewhere between the Federation, Klingon and Romulan territories. A Vulcan/Romulan hybrid, the circumstances surrounding his birth are not known.

He spent the formative years of his life as a street urchin and hustler. Bouncing around from planet to planet by stowing away on freighters doing odd jobs.

Living by street smarts and luck, he was recruited into the Orion Syndicate as an errand boy. He learned the tricks of the trade well and eventually became a full-fledged runner for the organization. However, the Syndicate caught him skimming credits off of deals and sent a couple of enforcers to teach him a lesson. Left for dead, Barrington was discovered by an undercover Starfleet officer.

After being nursed back to health, Barrington decided to help Starfleet bring down the local Syndicate lieutenant. The officers on assignment were so impressed, they recommended him for a slot in Starfleet Academy. With the sponsorship of one of the ranking admirals, Barrington was accepted.

His Starfleet Academy days were rocky. And he graduated 4 demerits short of expulsion. The subsequent six years of his career were not much better. He was moved around from uneventful assignment to uneventful assignment: staying on report most of the time. And, was demoted to ensign on two separate occasions.

But, Barringtons career turned around when he was asked to use his knowledge of the Orions to infiltrate an Orion front organization. The mission was a rousing success and Barrington was asked to come work for the Intelligence Command. He gladly accepted.

Over the next ten years, he specialized in covert operations, terrorism, and counter-terrorism. He had found his niche, and began to rise through the ranks. He spent considerable time in the Klingon, Cardassian, and Romulan Sectors: infiltrating the Obsidian Order and the Tal Shiar. Eventually landing a position as a case control officer. But still, actively, operating in the field.

Barrington was aboard a Romulan cruiser when the Ssorans attacked the Deltan Wormhole. Trapped in the Delta Quadrant, he worked behind the scenes as a Romulan officer, to foil the planned Romulan/Ssoran attack on Starfleets Delta Fleet.

Shortly after the Wraith limped back to the Delta Quadrant, the escape pod carrying Barrington (after destroying the Romulan cruiser) was discovered. After several tense hours of questioning, he was confirmed as a SFI operative. Following his debriefing, Barrington was asked to stay aboard the Wraith to help get her back up to speed.

Psychological Profile:

Commander Barrington is a loner. He is naturally suspicious of everyone and everything. This can be attributed to his childhood and the solitary nature of many of his assignments.

As a result, he is very difficult to gage. Cool and calculating like his Vulcan heritage, and at the same time fiery and fierce like his Romulan ancestors. If he does not want you to get inside, he will NOT allow you. But at the same time he will quietly and thoroughly access and catalog everything about you to the slightest detail. He seems to have a memory bank where he stores it all until needed.

He is extremely loyal. And, apparently, values that trait very highly. Possessing an exceptional and complex intellect, he sometimes seems to operate on a different mental plain.

During his time in the Romulan Sector, he had extensive contact with Ambassador Spock. Since that time he has taken up some of the Vulcan mental disciplines. Notably he has spoken of the "Korini Dercou." Not much is known about it. But it is believed to be an ancient Vulcanian discipline dealing with martial philosophies and stealth. No other information is available.

As a commander, Barrington is very thorough. He is able to apply seemingly unrelated resources to the solving of problems. Although aloof in nature, he communicates well. And is a "take-charge" kind of officer.

Counsellor's Note: Barrington is the only cadet in Starfleet history to kill an instructor. He was exonerated when it was proven to be an accident.

His name is derived from the last names of the three Starfleet Intelligence operatives that save him.

His nickname, "Box", comes from his proficiency in interrogation procedures. He has a knack for pulling information out of interviewees.

During his tour in the Cardassian Sector he was severely tortured by a particularly ruthless interrogator. His extensive physical injuries required extensive DNA resequencing.

During his stint in the Romulan Sector, Barrington had extensive contact with Ambassador Spock. He became a pupil of the Ambassador. And Spock taught him many things about the Vulcans.
